John Seaman, SuperFlow Sales & Service Engineer, Southeast Region
What are your responsibilities at SuperFlow?

I provide support and sales consultations for our customers in the southeastern United States. This involves everything from the sales process, to installation, commissioning, training, and on-site customer support.

How long have you worked for SuperFlow and in what positions?

I've been with SuperFlow for almost 10 years. My first position was customer service repair technician in Colorado Springs, CO, then customer service technical support engineer. After convincing the company's original founder (Neal Williams) that it would help our organization, I moved to Charlotte, NC to support existing and new customers in the southeast region.

Why did you want to work at SuperFlow?

I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania. My uncle (Gary Hettler) used to own a high-performance engine shop where I spent many of my summers learning (and working on) engines. We used to drive 2.5 hours one way to test on a SuperFlow 901 dynamometer at Kent Ritter's place in Wellsville, NY. Half geek, I found it very interesting testing the different drag-racing configurations on the dynamometer and perfecting the engines' performance. I recall one day we spent testing different components and didn't leave till 2:00 in the morning. The next day the engine was in the car headed to the racetrack. That engine helped win a national event in NJ. It wasn't the first or the last--just the one I remember the most.

When I came to Colorado because of my love of the outdoors, I was excited to learn SuperFlow was located in Colorado Springs. After a couple of months of pestering people, I finally got an interview with their service manager and two of the senior technicians.

What's your background?

I am a certified machinist and attended college at Pennsylvania College of Technology studying manufacturing engineering. After 3 years, I moved to Colorado Springs and attended Colorado Technical University. While there, I began working for SuperFlow.

You mentioned you moved to Colorado because you love the outdoors. What kinds of activities do you enjoy?

Hunting, fishing, skiing, camping, rock climbing, off-roading--pretty much anything that has a little adventure to it. I like that kind of stuff. On occasion I will spend a Saturday at a buddy's place messing around with old Jeeps.

What's an interesting story you'd like to share about your experience working in the NASCAR industry?

A friend who used to work for a local NASCAR team ordered a bunch of stuff from a women's clothing store for his wife. His wife then ordered a bunch of stuff for her girlfriends. My friend was moving back to Australia, and the items did not show up in time for him to take them with him. I had a trip scheduled to Australia about a month after he left the United States and he talked me into bringing the items with me. Australia Customs stopped me--luckily the agent had a sense of humor. The things we do for our customers!
