How long have you worked at SuperFlow?
Four years as of Friday, August 1st.
What do you like about working for SuperFlow Technologies Group?
I particularly enjoy that we have such a high-quality product; it certainly helps make my job easier. I also enjoy the marketplace I focus on and the customers in that marketplace. I was involved in the heavy-duty transportation market before SuperFlow, so it is very easy for me to relate to customers and their needs. Generally, it's fun-based on my personal interests and involvement in auto racing, I have known the SuperFlow name long before I worked here.
What does the Market and Business Development Manager do?
I handle the commercial heavy-duty transmission market for SuperFlow Technologies Group, meaning, I'm responsible for major customers in the heavy-duty markets such as Allison, ZF, Caterpillar, and Voith to name a few. I'm also very involved in the sales of our Hicklin line of products and am active in associations relevant to the heavy-duty market such as APRA and HDAW.
Do you sell our products straight to Allison and CAT?
Not necessarily. I generally try to use a "push/pull" effort working closely with OEMs and their distribution and remanufactures. It's a great way to continue doing business with these top customers. They are always looking for ways to save money, and in turn, they remanufacture parts more often. With remanufacturing comes testing which is where our products come in.
Do you also work to acquire new customers and business?
Of course. I pay close attention to the marketplace that deals with our type of heavy-duty transportation and applications. For example, with gas prices getting so high, an increasing amount of people are using public transportation. With more buses running more often, this means repair and maintenance will increase which generates more need for our transmission testing equipment to help get the buses back on the road as quickly as possible. Sometimes, though, it all boils down to good old-fashioned sales work to acquire new customers.
What is your background before SuperFlow? - Spent nearly 10 years in the HD truck business with Mack and Isuzu trucks.
- Owned a professional contract GM (Oldsmobile) road-racing team. We won three professional championships in the IMSA and SCCA professional road racing series throughout North America. Our race engines were built on SuperFlow SF-901 dynos!
- Worked for a large automotive and aftermarket component OEM.
- The foundation of my career started in the industrial engine and generator business where I was GM of a CAT dealer division. During that time I sold/serviced CAT, Ford, Perkins, ONAN, Kubota, and other industrial engine products and accessories.
- I have always been around the automotive and industrial business.
- Born in Waukegan, Illinois, I came to Des Moines to attend Drake University. Liked the area so much I stayed and married a great gal from West Des Moines 29 years ago as of August 4th. I have a 22-year-old daughter who is moving to Denver the end of August.
