SF-902 Builds on the Success of the SF-901
|
|
 |
In late 2002, SuperFlow introduced the SF-902 engine dynamometer which has realized unparalleled success. Of course, building on the most successful dyno platform in history such as the SF-901 made the jump easy. Today hundreds of users test thousands of engines per year on over 2,500 SuperFlow dynos. For some it was a leap into the future.

The SF-902 features a modern electronics system that far exceeds the capabilities of both our competitors and the SF-901. Adding the standard docking cart feature and more compact absorber stand was the easy part. Our challenge was to make a dyno that has the same feature set as the SF-901 while adding both capability and ease of use to the equation. - The new WinDyn ™ versions combine a vastly expanded channel count with the power of modern Microsoft® Windows® features. This provides a comfortable operating platform while simplifying operation.
Test Drive WinDyn Today!>>
A basic one-screen setup page gives the operator all control over the test, specifications, and file locations. This includes a faster control and data acquisition system.
Easy-to-use Windows-based editors allow you to customize the system to meet your needs. The SF-902 almost seems too simple to operate in today's high-tech, industrial world.
The new look and feel of the SF-902 gives the operator and your customers a welcome feeling. But we did not forget the brawn while designing good looks. As one of the highest horsepower rating dynos in the marketplace (2,500 hp/1864 Kw), the SF-902 is no slouch! Nitrous, natural, or boostedno problem!
Many of our customers who "vigorously" used our equipment over the years were pleasantly surprised to find that SuperFlow products hold up extremely well over time and offer one of the highest returns on investment in the market.
Of course, with over 2,500 engine dynamometers in the field, SuperFlow acknowledges our roots.
As the SF-901 runs into the age barrier, we find it increasingly harder to source certain parts that support older systems. In fact, many vendors no longer produce the technologies of the past and the SF-901 which, after all, was first designed in the late 1970s.

Upgrading is Easy and Affordable
SuperFlow offers our customers the logical path of upgradability. Basically you can make your SF-901 system an SF-902 electronically. This upgrade replaces all of your existing electronics and modernizes your current hardware. By maintaining your functional absorber, fuel turbines, air turbines, engine stand, and console wood, upgrading from an SF-901 to SF-902 is economical!
The standard sensor box immediately: - Upgrades your control system
- Increases your temperature channels from 14 to 16 and makes them all thermocouples
- Provides 2 upgradable pressure channels with expansion capability to 10
- Provides 2 standard analog channels for accessories such as Lambda
- Includes the latest WinDyn software
This great system also includes 2 days of SuperFlow on-site training, and who can put a price on that? A qualified SuperFlow technician not only certifies your new system, but also trains you and your staff on the system's new features and operation.

Analysis of System Differences
|
|
 |
Because of electronics at the time, 901 dynamometers used a maximum sample rate of 20 Hz (hertz is a unit of frequency = cycles per second) while the latest SuperFlow electronics have a sample rate of approximately 2 KHz (2000 times per second). This data capability increase of 100X allows the operator to observe engine and chassis dynamometer data with much more detail.
The data update rates are so much faster on the latest equipment that a different averaging scheme, called filters or filter rates, could be applied. Although each filter rate has a number associated with it, the filter rates are not the same as those used on earlier equipment.
It is also important to consider that 902 systems use a four-pole filter, and the 901 systems use only a single-pole filter. The issue of filters and filter rates is complex, but it is important to evaluate these issues as they apply to dynamometer data particularly when comparing 901 and 902 systems.
The 901 systems use automatic filter rates that are triggered by selecting the type of test entered. The 902 systems also use automatic filter rates, but the operator can set them up to use different filter rates.
What Others May Not Want You to See
SuperFlow Technologies Group has made a bold move by allowing the operator to take a close look at any channel of data to see how data is collected, calculated, or displayed. SuperFlow invites a close scrutiny of the data and allows the operator to change the parameters on command to the system. All calculations are based on sound engineering principles.
Automatic Weather Station
The automatic weather station data advantage provides tighter control on correction factors and improves data over manual entry of the variables as a result.
All 902 dynamometers have the automatic weather station feature as standard equipment.
Horsepower Calculations
The calculation of power is a very straightforward process so that:

The Sf-902 measurement of torque and rpm is extremely accurate and provides dependable information for the operator and engine developer.
Operator Influences
Operator influences from such variables as throttle application speed with carbureted engines are easier for the SF-902 system to "see" from the increase in data. The effects of the transient film dynamics (liquid-wall flow) caused by the rapid application of the accelerator pump circuit on carburetors can affect the engine for several revolutions.
