Years ago, if a transmission didn't shift, you knew right where to look for a problem. You rebuilt the transmission, and everything was back on track.
But today's cars have changed. Most of the major systems are controlled by computer. and that includes the automatic transmission. So it's entirely possible to have a transmission that won't shift, but have nothing wrong with the trans itself.
The Schaffer® Shifter® electronic transmission tester takes the place of the computer system, to control transmission operation. So if the transmission operates properly from the Schaffer® Shifter, you know the transmission is okay...the problem is in the computer system.
